The Official Baby Watcher character's Concept Abstract:
how "The OBW." was created by an artist, the concept may seem a bit
abstract, but it shouldn’t be...I only want families to accept him at face
value – simply as a novelty little watchman with a Positive Wholesome
Purpose and Mission – to rally the whole family for watching over
babies and small children” says Gatica.
“And just like Wob, I respect and care for small children
and have taken the steps to fulfill the character's ultimate wish and have
made him a playable, plush toy that doubles as a decorative wall hanging for
the baby's room - so that he will always be in a baby' room - like he wished”,
MORE on the CHARACTER
you ever had a need to create something because you can't find anything like
it anywhere in stores? This is how “The Li'l Baby Watcher” came to being.
“I created the character a few years ago for a friend’s new born baby
because I wanted to give the new baby a special, meaningful unique gift from
the heart, something significant and with a purpose. I thought - the greatest
thing I could give a child would be their very own personal guardian that
would watch over them forever.” says artist, Ray Gatica.
The original gift was a whimsical - two-dimensional, airbrush
poster, 18 X 24” (tall), of my, idea of what a baby watchman would look
like if he were real; after all, anyone who takes on the rigorous position of
watching over a child has to be strong, alert, and of course, physically

Now, through the story book, and
plush dolls everyone can share this warm thought with their own small family
members and that of friends. They make the ultimate 'caring gifts from the
heart' for all small children. I expect a discerning public, who expect more
from a children's character, will support the character and help in spreading
his mission world-wide.
the Characters Physical Stature: Overall
he is a little peculiar, funny looking character with a large head with big
eyes, big ears and short-short legs and he stands on two huge clumsy looking
boots. And, even though he is a misfit of sorts, a cross between a funny
looking clown and a dashing, little soldier he is neither; and instead of
holding a rifle like a soldier he vaguely resembles, he holds a useless
candy-cane stick with lolli-pops on top. The
idea is that his big ears and alert eyes allow him to see and hear everything
in the baby’s room. He has wide
shoulders, a barrel chest and big arms and sturdy, short legs with big feet to
hold him upright sternly. Actually,
he’s a funny and peculiar looking misfit, but non-the-less, he’s
well-formed physically. The O.B.W. is a strong,
debonair, healthy, wholesome looking character by design. If he were real, there
would be no doubt of his ability to physically act as a bodyguard and
successfully watch over the children, hence his name
‘The Li’l Baby Watcher’.
uniform: Its official looking uniform was designed by Gatica, and
hand made by Mrs. Lillian Baksa, a seamstress, and owner of the Doll Hospital
in, Waterbury Connecticut. The uniform
is somewhat military looking and then again it is not. It is supposed to just
give him an air of 'offciality',
while making him dashing and debonair. It also serves to make him more of a
misfit being a cross between a funny clown and a soldier, because instead of him having a rifle over his shoulder like a
soldier, would have, he has a harmless useless candy cane with lolli-pops on top.

few months later, after creating the character, I was compelled to describe
him - this lead to writing the story behind the character” says Gatica. The
story describes the character as a lonely and seemingly unimportant,
insignificant misfit of sorts, a peculiar, disheveled character named, Wob
(rhymes with Bob). And even though, he was in the baby’s room, he was not a
toy that the baby could play with. He sat up on a high shelf - seemingly
without any purpose or reason. This made him feel lonely and all alone.
But despite his peculiarities, he was a smart li’l guy with feelings, and he
loved the baby in the story. His biggest wish was to be a part of the baby’s
life, a part of the family someday.
story ends happily, as the family finally notice him and realize how special
he is, and designate him “The Official Baby Watcher.” In the end he
gets placed close to the baby’s bed. And because of his magical
transformation, he is now a dashing, debonair hero and happy little somebody.
And the toys, which laughed at him because of his peculiar looks, now like him
and accepted him - just the way he is.
though The OBW character has been compared to the Guardian Angel, Gatica sees
him simply as an artistic character, a silent little sentinel that watches
over children in a fanciful way, of course. He is a positive,
non-violent, non-mushy special character with redeeming social value
that no other character can claim!
Multicultural Possibilities: The dolls are non-gender specific, and since the character’s name and story can be translated into any language he can be shared with babies and small children of any nationality The dolls are available in 4-assorted hair and face color combinations, making them multicultural so that they can be shared with families of all nationalities.
playable plush dolls double as decorative wall hangings. The idea here is that
when the child is sleeping or not playing with the doll - it is designed to
hang on the wall (out of the way) in the baby’s room where it performs its fanciful sentinel
duty –hence the name the li’l Baby Watchman.Ô
